For 240 years, we've been looking at some version of this beautiful flag. With each addition to our country, the flag has expanded, to encompass the 50-star version that we see today.
There are several versions of how Old Glory came to be, most including a then-unknown seamstress named Betsy Ross and the colors Red, White, and Blue. This much we know for sure- on June 14, 1777, Congress made it official with the following statement- “Resolved, that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." Clearly they saw the power of our new nation and looked to the skies to see our future.
Happy Flag Day- hang one, fly one, and say thank you.
