Today is Veteran's Day and we honor those Men and Women who have served our country. Here at The Lodge, we are reminded on days like today of what America is about.
To be an American is to bask in the glory and benefits of living in a democracy. A place where liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness are facts of daily life. It's easy to take these things for granted when you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want to here in America. Pretty much everything you do in your life is enabled because you live in the United States. You know who doesn't take this fact for granted?
Our Military. Our Veterans. The families of Deceased soldiers.
You see, for the folks in our armed forces, they believe so much in the ideals of America that they risk their lives for them. They do it for you. They do it for me. They certainly don't do it for the money.
Today if you see a veteran or active soldier, thank them. Hug them. Buy them a whiskey. You know what, they damn well deserve it.
"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." -George Washington
